Children lighting candles of prayerMessy Church was held for the third time at Redgate Primary School on the 14th November. Despite it being cold and dark outside, the hall was full of bright and cheery people creating fabulous pieces of artwork based around the theme of advent and 'Jesus - The light in our lives.'

Our enthusiastic team of helpers set up the art and craft stations in record time and we were well perpared to welcome those who joined us for Messy Church

The Activities

Advent Candles:
Waiting for Jesus;" The light of the world." John 9. 4-6.

Carefully marking out the days of advent and decorating the candle with festive drawings was a tricky but rewarding activity. .The resulting advent candles were wonderful and I am sure that everyone who made one will really enjoy lighting their candle each day of advent, the count down to the celebration of the birth of Christ.

"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven". Matthew 5:15-17.

These easy to make rockets were brilliant fun to fly and the corridor leading to the worship room was the perfect place to launch them. Lots of laughter and screams of delight together with the rockets flew through the air.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:11-13.

With Advent fast approaching this was a lovely opportunity to decorate an advent calendar. The emphasis here was the true meaning of Christmas.

The worship
Messy Church team member teaching the actions to a new songAfter an hour of activities, we began our time of celebration and worship by learning a new action song with the help of the messy team.

The Messy message focused on Jesus being the light in our lives and if we follow him, he will light the way. We sang a beautiful song and then everyone was invited to light a candle and pray for someone they care about.

After the worship, we tucked in to pizza followed by an assortment of delicious cakes! During the supper we were able to chat and build relationships again with those returning and to enjoy meeting the new people.

If you would like to join us at Messy church then the next one at Regate School is on Sunday 6th March 2011 when we will be exploring who God is.Why not come and join the fun.
